HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 2929A Resolution NO ~9 Z9 SUPPORTING LEGISLATIVE INITIATIVES OF SCENIC TEXAS TO PRESERVE AND ENHANCE COMMUNITY CHARACTER AND VIEWS FROM THE ROADWAY WHEREAS, the roadways within the City are a public investment and heavily traveled by tourists and residents and the region's roadways and their scenery are directly related to the economy of the City and the rest of the State and WHEREAS, it is desirable to protect and provide for the general welfare of the traveling public as well as encourage economic development through tourism and WHEREAS, landscaping enhances the aesthetics of public roadways,. and WHEREAS, the City and the State economy is dependent on the preservation of the State's natural beauty and is desirable to preserve and promote the natural beauty of the region surrounding the City as well as all. other State roadways and WHEREAS the presence of billboards can transform a scenic view and scenic roadway into a crowded and littered view and make the roadway less desirable to travel; and WHEREAS, the City of Fort Worth recently prohibited new billboard construction within the City but does not retain the authority to prohibit billboards on the thoroughfares outside city limits that lead into the City NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH That the City Council supports legislation that prohibits the construction of new billboards statewide and That the City Council respectfully asks the members of the Legislature the Governor and the Lieutenant Governor to give full consideration to this type of legislation Adopted this /gam day of March 2003 ATT T By.
