A RESOLUTION ADOPTING A POSITION ON CONGRESSIONAL
REDISTRICTING
WHEREAS, Governor Perry has called a special legislative session of the Texas
Legislature that begins on June 30 2003 to consider redistricting of the United
States Congressional districts to determine the geographic boundaries of all
congressional districts m this state and
WHEREAS, Fort Worth is a diverse city with a population of over 560 000 people
and a dynamic local economy that contributes to the overall health of this state and
nation and thereby needs appropriate representation at the federal government level
and
WHEREAS, the current congressional district map was drawn Just two years ago by
a panel of federal Judges and has been upheld by the United States Supreme Court
and
WHEREAS, Fort Worth is well served by both of its congressional representatives
and the current map allows the minority community to have a dramatic impact on
the outcome of elections
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL, OF THE
CITY OF FORT WORTH,
That the City Council strongly urges the Legislature to make no changes to the
current map that is serving Fort Worth well
AND IT IS SO RESOLVED
