CANVASSING THE RETURNS; DECLARING THE RESULTS OF
THE GENERAL ELECTION HELD ON MAY 6, 2017 FOR THE
PURPOSE OF ELECTING A MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
MEMBERS FOR THE CITY OF FORT WORTH AND
DECLARING A RUN-OFF ELECTION FOR CITY COUNCIL
DISTRICT TWO
WHEREAS, on February 7, 2017, the City Council adopted Ordinance No. 22592-02-2017,
calling for and ordering a general election to be held on Saturday, May 6, 2017, at which election all
qualified voters of the City of Fort Worth would have the opportunity to vote for the purpose of electing
a Mayor at large and eight(8) City Council Members from their respective districts; and
WHEREAS, on May 6, 2017, the general election was held at which the qualified voters
of the City had the opportunity to vote for the purpose of electing a Mayor at large and eight (8)
City Council Members from their respective districts; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Chapter 67 of the Texas Election Code, the City Council of the City of
Fort Worth is required to canvass the returns and declare the results of the election;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
FORT WORTH THAT:
SECTION 1. The declarations and findings contained in the preamble of this Resolution are
hereby found to be true and correct and shall be made a part hereof.
SECTION 2. The City Council hereby finds and declares that the City Council election for a
Mayor and Districts 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 was held on May 6, 2017, at which election qualified voters
were given the opportunity to vote for the purpose of electing a Mayor at large and City Council
Members from their respective districts.
SECTION 3. The City Council further finds and declares that the returns for such election are
as follows:

SECTION 4. The City Council further finds and declares that such returns are correct, and
adopts them as the returns of the election held on May 6, 2017, together with the tabulation of the total
number of votes received in each precinct.
SECTION 5. The City Council further finds that the following person be declared elected to the
office of Mayor and City Council, respectively:

Council—District 3 Brian Byrd
Council—District 4 Cary Moon
Council—District 5 Gyna M. Bivens
Council—District 6 Jungus Jordan
Council—District 7 Dennis Shingleton
Council—District 8 Kelly Allen Gray
Council—District 9 Ann Zadeh
SECTION 6. The City Council further finds that no candidate received a majority of the total
number of votes received by all candidates for the office of City Council District 2 and that no candidate
be declared elected to City Council District 2. Therefore, in accordance with Chapter IV, Section 2, of
the City of Fort Worth Home Rule Charter, a run-off election is hereby declared necessary to fill this
place on the City Council.
SECTION 7. It is hereby officially found and determined that the meeting of the Fort Worth
City Council at which this Resolution was adopted was open to the public, and that public notice of the
time, place and purpose of said meeting was given, as required by Chapter 551 of the Texas Government
Code.
SECTION 8. This Resolution shall take effect n adoptio on this 16th day of May, 2017.
