SUPPORTING THE GRANT APPLICATION FOR FEDERAL FUNDING
OF THE NORTHSIDE COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER
WHEREAS, the Fort Worth Northside Community Health Center Inc. has been established
as anon-profit organization to improve access to health care for Hispanics living in the north side
area of Fort Worth and
WHEREAS the U S Census found that the Hispanic population of Fort Worth increased
substantially in the past 10 years from 12 percent to 33 percent; and
WHEREAS Hispanics are the most underserved population in terms of access to health
care and many must overcome as language barriers lack of transportation being underinsured or
uninsured and other such barriers to access quality and affordable health care and
WHEREAS Fort Worth Northside Community Health Center Inc. is working with other
community organizations, including the University of North Texas Health Science Center and JPS
Health Network, to develop solutions to the health issues facing Hispanics and others in the
community and
WHEREAS the board of the Northside Community Health Center has applied to the
Federal Bureau of Primary Health Care for federal funding to establish a new access point for
primary health care in Fort Worth and
WHEREAS, if approved the grant will create the first federally funded community health
center in Fort Worth
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
FORT WORTH TEXAS
That Fort Worth City Council supports the efforts of Fort Worth Northside Community Health
Center Inc. its board and the collaborating agencies in seeking federal funding to establish a new
access point for primary health care with an emphasis on serving a growing Hispanic population in
Fort Worth and urge the federal government to approve this important application for funding
