URGING THE TEXAS MUNICIPAL LEAGUE TO SUPPORT LEGISLATION
PROVIDING FOR FUNDING ALTERNATIVES TO ADDRESS LOCAL
TRANSPORTATION INFRASTRUCTURE NEEDS
WHEREAS, the importance of an integrated variety of transportation modes such as
bike or non motorized vehicular or other motorized bus rail and light rail are essential to
make our cities an attractive and convenient place to live and work and
WHEREAS the ability of local governments of this state to construct, repair and
maintain adequate streets, roads bridges and other transportation infrastructure to support
the various transportation modes and to undertake new projects necessary to support the
growth in population and use of local transportation facilities is vital to the continued
economic vitality of this state and
WHEREAS it is in the interest of all citizens of this state that adequate equitably
distributed sources of revenues be available to cities, counties and other local governments
that are responsible for such transportation facilities and
WHEREAS HB 445 by Representative Toby Goodman was passed during the 2001
Texas Legislative Session that provided for the use of sales tax revenues to be limited for
municipal street repair and maintenance and
WHEREAS, an expansion of this type of legislation is needed to provide a revenue
source to give cities and other local governments the ability to construct, repair and maintain
essential transportation infrastructure that will support the various transportation modes and
WHEREAS, additional funding options or expansion of the funding mechanism
provided for in HB 445 is needed to promote sustainable development through the planning
and implementation of multimodal transportation systems and infrastructure in our cities that
will be beneficial to growing cities across Texas

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF FORT WORTH
That the City of Fort Worth urges the Texas Municipal League to support legislation
that provides for funding alternatives that will provide for local transportation funding for
cities and other local governments to address construction repair and maintenance of local
streets roads, bridges and other related transportation infrastructure that will support
transportation modes such as bikes or other non motorized options buses rail and light rail
systems
