A RESOLUTION DESIGNATING DOWNTOWN AND THE MEDICAL
DISTRICT AS AREAS TO BE GIVEN FIRST CONSIDERATION BY THE U S
GENERAL SERVICES ADMINISTRATION IN LOCATING SPACE FOR
FEDERAL AGENCIES
WHEREAS the U S General Services Administration (GSA) acquires improves
manages and leases property for use by the Federal government and
WHEREAS Executive Order 12072 stipulates that Federal facilities and Federal
use of space in urban areas shall serve to strengthen the Nations cities and to
make them attractive places to live and work Such Federal space shall conserve
existing urban resources and encourage the development and redevelopment of
cities and
WHEREAS Executive Order 12072 also stipulates that the process for meeting
Federal space needs in urban areas shall give first consideration to a centralized
community business area and adjacent areas of similar character including other
specific areas which may be recommended by local officials and
WHEREAS Downtown Fort Worth and the Medical District together function as
Fort Worth s central business area, employing approximately 70 000 persons and
WHEREAS the City of Fort Worth m accordance with its Comprehensive Plan is
encouraging economic development within central city employment centers and
WHEREAS Downtown Fort Worth, Inc and Fort Worth South, as non profit
agencies overseeing redevelopment efforts m Downtown and the Medical District,
respectively have expressed support for the location of Federal agencies and
facilities within these areas and
WHEREAS the Downtown planning sector and the Fort Worth South planning
area, as depicted on the map at Attachment A appropriately represent Downtown
and the Medical District respectively for the purposes of this designation

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS
1) To designate the following as areas to be given first consideration by
GSA m its location decisions
a. The Downtown planning sector shown m the City's Comprehensive
Plan as roughly bounded by the Trinity River to the north and west,
the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad to the east, and the Union
Pacific Railroad to the south as the centralized community
business area, in accordance with Executive Order 12072 and
b The Medical District represented by the Fort Worth South planning
area, roughly bounded by the Union Pacific Railroad to the north,
Evans Avenue to the east Allen Avenue to the south, and the Fort
Worth and Western Railroad to the west as an adjacent area of
similar character in accordance with Executive Order 12072
2) To recommend that other mixed use growth centers and urban villages as
designated m the Comprehensive Plan, also receive consideration by GSA
m its location decisions in accordance with Executive Order 12072
