HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 2643A Resolution No z 6 Y3 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS REQUESTING THAT THE UNITED STATES SENATE APPROVE THE CONSERVATION AND REINVESTMENT ACT WHICH INCLUDES OVER $236 MILLION PER YEAR IN FUNDING FOR NATURAL RESOURCES, PARKS AND OPEN SPACE IN THE STATE OF TEXAS WHEREAS the City Council of the City of Fort Worth, Texas is committed to conserving our cultural and natural resources to ensure that all citizens will have the opportunity to enjoy these resources in the future; and, WHEREAS funds provided by the adoption of the Conservation and Reinvestment Act (CARA) will allow the City to work with the State and Federal government to improve the quality of life of the people of Fort Worth, Texas; and WHEREAS the City Council of the City of Fort Worth, adopted Resolution No 2393, on April 21 1998 Urging Congress to Reinstate Full Stateside Funding of the Land and Water Conservation Fund, and WHEREAS, the Conservation and Reinvestment Act (CARA) includes programs that are consistent with Resolution No 2393 in that they preserve and enhance parks, open spaces, wildlife habitat and cultural facilities; and WHEREAS the passage of CARA will provide funds to state and local governments to aid in the preservation of these important natural and cultural resources via the reinvestment of Outer Continental Shelf oil and gas revenues; and, WHEREAS, the United States House of Representatives passed the Conservation and Reinvestment Act (H. R. '~01) by an overwhelming vote of 315 to 102. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS, 1) That the City Council requests that the United States Senate approve the Conservation and Reinvestment Act providing state and local governments with funds to preserve the aforementioned resources. ~~ ,~ _, r._ 2) That the City Council authorizes and directs the Crty Manager and his staffto distribute a copy of this resolution to the Senators representing Texas and to other members of Congress, as appropriate.
