CONTINUATION OF DECLARATION OF LOCAL DISASTER
CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS
WHEREAS, as a result of referral through the State of Texas,the City of Fort Worth has received
an influx of evacuees from cities and counties in south Texas in which there exists a declared state of
disaster resulting from the widespread damage,injury,loss of life and property and the after effects caused
by Hurricane Harvey in August 2017;
WHEREAS, the City of Fort Worth has been requested to provide a variety of emergency and
recovery service resources to assist the evacuees from the Hurricane-ravaged areas in disaster recovery;
WHEREAS, on August 28, 2017, the Mayor of the City of Fort Worth determined that
extraordinary measures must be taken to alleviate the suffering of people and therefore, the Mayor
declared a state of disaster for the City of Fort Worth as allowed under section 418.108 of the Texas Local
Government Code;
WHEREAS,under State Law, the state of disaster declaration by the Mayor can only be in effect
for a period of not more than seven days, unless the same is continued by the City Council of the City of
Fort Worth, Texas;
WHEREAS, the situation in the Hurricane-ravaged areas and the large number of evacuees leads
the City Council to believe that the evacuees will need emergency and recovery services for more than
seven days.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
FORT WORTH, TEXAS:
I.
That the state of disaster declaration for the City of Fort Worth shall continue for a period of not
more than sixty days of the date hereof.
II.
That the City's Emergency Operational Plan shall continue to be implemented.

That this resolution shall take effect immediately from and after its issuance.

DECLARATION OF LOCAL DISASTER IN THE CITY OF FORT
WORTH, TEXAS IN RESPONSE TO HURRICANE HARVEY
WHEREAS, Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed a disaster declaration upon a finding
that Hurricane Harvey posed a threat of imminent disaster along the Texas
coast beginning August 23, 2017; and
WHEREAS, in response to Governor Abbott's disaster declaration and upon a request
for emergency aid from the State of Texas, President Trump has issued an
emergency disaster declaration, thereby making federal funding available
on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures statewide; and
WHEREAS, evacuation of residents along the Texas coast and disaster conditions
throughout a large portion of Texas require emergency assistance of federal,
state, and local governmental entities to save lives, provide life-sustaining
support, and protect public health and safety; and
WHEREAS, the state and federal governments' declarations of disaster in response to
Hurricane Harvey have resulted in the evacuation of thousands of residents
of the Texas coastal region, and the City of Fort Worth has received and
will continue to receive an influx of evacuees in need of emergency services
required to save lives, avert loss of life and property, and protect public
health and safety; and
WHEREAS, in response to the state of emergency resulting from Hurricane Harvey in
the State of Texas, the City of Fort Worth has been requested to provide a
variety of emergency and recovery service resources to assist in disaster
relief and recovery; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor of the City of Fort Worth has determined that extraordinary
measures must be taken to alleviate the suffering of people and to protect
public health and safety;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE MAYOR OF THE CITY OF FORT
WORTH, TEXAS:
I.
That a state of disaster is declared for the City of Fort Worth.
II.
That the City's Emergency Operational Plan has been implemented.
III.
That the state of disaster shall continue for a period of not more than seven days of
the date hereof, unless the same is continued by consent of the City Council of the City of
Fort Worth, Texas.
IV.
That this proclamation shall take effect immediately from and after its issuance.
