URGING THE TEXAS MUNICIPAL LEAGUE
TO ENDORSE THE NOMINATION OF MAYOR KENNETH BARR
TO THE NATIONAL LEAGUE OF CITIES BOARD OF DIRECTORS
WHEREAS, each year prior to the Annual Conference the Texas Municipal League
(TML) seeks written expressions of interest from elected officials wanting to serve on the
National League of Cities (NLC) Board of Directors and
WHEREAS, each year the TML Board of Directors at the Annual Conference
endorses no more than three candidates and no more than one candidate from a single city
for consideration as a nominee for membership on the NLC Board of Directors and
WHEREAS, those individuals endorsed by TML along with many other nominees
from across the nation, will be considered by NLC s Nominating Committee at the NLC
Congress of Cities meeting m Boston, Massachusetts in December and
WHEREAS, Mayor Kenneth Barr has expressed an interest in seeking the
endorsement of TML for nomination as a member of the NLC Board of Directors and has
served on the Fort Worth City Council since 1993 and as Mayor since 1996 and is very
familiar with national and local issues related to cities and
WHEREAS, Mayor Barr is associated with both the TML and NLC organizations as
he currently serves as the 1999 2000 President of TML has served as a long time
committee member and Chair of the NLC Transportation and Communication Committee
and represented the NLC before Congressional committees and
WHEREAS, because of his vast city related experience and effort, Mayor Kenneth
Barr would do an excellent fob at representing the City of Fort Worth and the cities of
Texas as a member of NLC Board of Directors
