HomeMy WebLinkAboutContract 49734 CITY SECRETARY CONTRACT NO. 4q_13 MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING Fort Worth Can Academy—East Lancaster Campus This Memorandum of Understanding(MOU) is entered into this�-rs� day of&P64 017 between the City of Fort Worth(City) and Texas Can Inc.(Texas Can), a Texas non-profit corporation exempt from taxation pursuant to Internal Revenue Code section 501(c)(3). Introduction DESCRIPTION:Texas Can Academies is a 501(c)(3)non-profit created to provide alternative educational opportunities for at-risk students in Texas. DESCRIPTION:Fort Worth Public Library(Library)welcomes and supports all people in their enjoyment of reading and recreational materials and their pursuit of learning and information.The Fort Worth city Code Sec. 19-16 establishes the Library as a department of the City supervised by a City Librarian who is appointed by the City Manager.The City Council has designated the Library as the official depository for municipal records deemed to be of historical significance. COMMON PURPOSE: The parties share the common objectives of providing educational opportunities for young people and promoting the value of literacy. Scope This MOU describes the roles and responsibilities of the City and Texas Can and the manner in which the parties will collaborate to provide library services to the students by establishing a deposit collection at the Fort Worth Can Academy's East Lancaster Campus. Agreements For the duration of a nine-month pilot program during the 2017-18 school year,the City and Texas Can agree to the following: 1. Can Collection a. City Responsibilities—The Library shall have primary responsibility to do the following: i. Provide a 200-book collection to be housed at the Fort Worth Can Academy's East Lancaster Campus. 1. Shamblee Branch Library employees will periodically refresh the collection,substituting new items as requested by Texas Can and delivering to Texas Can. 2. Net number of items housed at Texas Can will not exceed 200. ii.Issue institutional library cards to Texas Can. 1. Can Collection items will initially be checked out to the institutional cards.Texas Can will then lend the items to students. iii. Provide library card applications and issue cards to Texas Can students. iv. Provide access to the Library's Integrated Library System(ILS),Polaris, for the purpose of managing the collection,which includes lending and retrieving the books. v.hro`vi a ining and support for the ILS. Texas Can Responsibilities—The Fort Worth Can Academy's East Lancaster Campus shall have primary responsibility to do the following: i. Provide a space in which to securely house the Can Collection. ii.Maintain and organize the collection. iii. Assume responsibility for all materials checked out on Texas Can's institutional cards. iv. Collect library card applications from the students and return the applications to the Shamblee Branch Library. v.Once applications are processed by the Library,distribute to the students. vi. Lend and retrieve items using the Library's Integrated Library System (ILS), Polaris,to manage the inventory. vii. Instruct students whose accounts are not in good standing(fines in excess of$4.99)to contact a Fort Worth library for assistance. viii. Adhere to the Library's privacy and confidentiality policy. Information about Library customers'accounts and use of the collection is strictly confidential and protected by Texas Government Code Title 5 Section 552.124. Access to the Fort Worth Library's Polaris system is granted to specified Can Academy staff solely for the purpose of checking Fort Worth Library materials out and in. Information about students' Library accounts or use of the collection may not be shared with anyone outside the Library or specified Can Academy staff.
