RECOMMENDATION:

No.100520)
DISCUSSION:
This Mayor and Council Communication (M&C) provides for permanent slope stabilization for the City's
twin 90-inch sanitary sewer mains (M-280-B and M-338-13) leading to the Village Creek Water
Reclamation Facility. Heavy rain in May and June 2016 caused severe erosion along the portion of the
West Fort Trinity River jeopardizing the integrity of the identified sewer mains. Failure of either or both of
these mains would have resulted in raw sewage discharge into the river. Via an emergency contract,
temporary measures were conducted to prevent further erosion around the two sewer mains until a
permanent solution was developed and the necessary permits obtained. The permanent solution consists
of the stabilization of the Trinity River bank slope using rock gabion baskets anchored to a reinforced
concrete foundation.
