HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 2579A Resolution NO 57 URGING THE TEXAS MUNICIPAL LEAGUE TO SUPPORT CHANGES IN STATE LAW OR IN ADMINSTRATIVE REGULATIONS GOVERNING THE SALE OF 32 OUNCE OR 40 OUNCE BEER PRODUCTS PACKAGED IN GLASS CONTAINERS WHEREAS, broken bottles in vacant lots and on city streets pose a danger to neighborhood residents especially children and WHEREAS, in some cities the problem in part seems to stem from the sale of 32 ounce or 40 ounce beer products packaged in glass containers that are discarded improperly and WHEREAS, a voluntary ban in one city has been helpful in reducing the amount of litter and broken glass present in the area of the ban and WHEREAS, a more permanent solution is needed which could entail changes m state law or in administrative regulations governing the sale of 32 ounce and 40 ounce beer products packaged in glass containers and WHEREAS, in the Crty of St Louis retailers are prohibited from selling 32 ounce or 40 ounce beer product packaged in glass containers that are chilled or refrigerated and WHEREAS, this action by the City of St Louis has virtually eliminated the problem of broken glass litter in that city attributed to the 32 ounce or 40 ounce beer product and WHEREAS, in other cities a required deposit on the sale of these bottled products has also helped to reduce litter and broken glass and this option as well as the solution practiced m St Louis needs to be considered m our state NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH, That the City of Fort Worth urges the Texas Municipal League to support changes to state law or administrative regulations by the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission that would impose some restrictions on the sale of 32 oz and 40 oz beer in glass containers or require deposits on the sale of these type of glass bottled products Adopted this 28th day of September 1999 APPRQVED CITY COUNCI~t~ SEP ~~ 1999 pity Sacxetary off the ~... s ~ ~Itp.of Fort ~}Voath, T~;;a~" ~~ ~ ~ ~~'.
