ENDORSING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A SCHOOL OF
PUBLIC HEALTH AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH
TEXAS HEALTH SCIENCE CENTER AT FORT WORTH
Whereas in 1991 the President of the University of North Texas Health
Science Center at Fort Worth (formerly the Texas College of Osteopathic
Medicine) named a committee of community leaders to develop the mission,
goals, and objectives for a School of Public Health and Health Policy and
Whereas the need for trained public health professionals in Fort Worth
and North Central Texas was underscored in a community needs assessment
outlining the health care needs of the citizens; and
Whereas, the community commitment to this endeavor was also
demonstrated by the contribution of private funds from local major foundations
and private donors and
Whereas in 1995 a joint Master of Public Health Program was developed
and implemented by the University of North Texas Health Science Center and
the University of North Texas to maximize the educational resources in North
Texas and
Whereas the universities have demonstrated their success by a current
enrollment of 80 students and have graduated 20 students who are now working
in Fort Worth and the Metroplex;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF FORT WORTH TEXAS
That the University of North Texas Health Science Center and the
University of North Texas are hereby recognized and commended for their
contributions to the citizens of Fort Worth; and
That the City of Fort Worth hereby endorses the establishment of A
SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH TEXAS
HEALTH SCIENCE CENTER AT FORT WORTH to continue and expand its
mission of education, research and service
