URGING CONGRESS TO ESTABLISH AN INS
OFFICE IN FORT WORTH AND TO APPROPRIATE
SUFFICIENT FUNDS TO HIRE PERSONNEL TO
ELIMINATE THE BACKLOG IN PROCESSING
CITIZENSHIP APPLICATIONS
Whereas, the Immigration and Naturalization Service ("INS") office that
serves residents of the City of Fort Worth is located in Dallas thirty miles away
from Fort Worth, and
Whereas the INS ofFce in Dallas serves an area that extends to
Oklahoma City on the north and to Abilene on the west; and
Whereas families from Fort Worth who wish to see an INS agent must
literally be in line the night before and, even then, are not sure that they will be
served; and
Whereas families who are applying for citizenship often must often wait
12 months or longer before their application is processed
NOW THEREFORE, BE 1T RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS
1 That Congress should take immediate action to establish an Immigration and
Naturalization Service office in the City of Fort Worth.
2. That Congress should immediately appropriate sufficient funds so that the
Department of Justice may hire personnel to ease the backlog in processing
citizenship applications that exists throughout the country
3 That the City Manager shall send copies of this Resolution to the members of
Congress who represent the State of Texas
