RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF THE URBAN DESIGN
FOR IH 30/35W INTERCHANGE AND LANCASTER BOULEVARD
WHEREAS, The Texas Department of Transportation, m conjunction with the City of Fort
Worth has undertaken an ambitious program of freeway construction through
the southern end of downtown Fort Worth, and
WHEREAS, the proposed improvements extend beyond the Interstate Highway 30 and
Interstate Highway 35W interchange and east to Riverside Drive and west to
Forest Park Boulevard on Interstate Highway 30, north to Luella Street and
south to Hattie Street on Interstate 35W and
WHEREAS, a significant component of the program is a removal of the existing Interstate
Highway 30 overhead structure along the Lancaster Avenue alignment and
relocating the Interstate Highway 30 alignment to the south, and
WHEREAS, this relocation of Interstate Highway 30 offers an opportunity to study
recommendations regarding the future urban design environment for the
Lancaster Avenue and relocated Interstate Highway 30 corridors, and
WHEREAS, the Texas Department of Transportation has commissioned such a study at its
expense; and
WHEREAS, the completed study was presented to City Council by the Texas Department of
Transportation on June 11, 1996 and whose recommendations are contained in
a document entitled An Urban Design for the IH 30/35W Interchange" and
WHEREAS, the study and subsequent recommendations represent a single conceptual
approach to master planning and urban design for the area and are non-
binding.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF FORT WORTH THAT
SECTION 1 The City of Fort Worth acknowledges and appreciates the Texas Department
of Transportation for commissioning the study and their contribution of $1.5 million toward
landscaping.
SECTION 2 The City of Fort Worth expresses its further appreciation for the vision and
leadership provided by the Texas Department of Transportation in this regard.
