HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 1983:~ A, Resolution Adapted Ras®t~a~~n ~a, ~~ g 3 RELATING TO THE RENAMING OF INTERSTATE HIGHWAY 35 TO THE NAFTA HIGHWAY WHEREAS The efficient movement of commercial and agricultural goods is vital to the economies of the US Mexico and Canada, and WHEREAS Interstate Highway 35 is the mayor road transportation artery from the US-Mexico border at Laredo through the center of the United States to the US-Canada border near Duluth, Minnesota, and WHEREAS Interstate Highway 35 directly connects the major population and commercial centers of Laredo San Antonio Austin, and Dallas-Ft. Worth in Texas with Oklahoma City Wichita, Kansas City Des Moines Minneapolis Duluth, and the Canadian border area, and WHEREAS Interstate Highway 35 is a major part of this country's national Interstate Highway systems connecting the ports, railway lines, airports, major agricultural and commercial centers, and highway systems of the three countries which constitute the North American Market; and WHEREAS More American, Mexican and Canadian commercial trade moves on Interstate Highway 35 than on any other highway in the North-American market; and WHEREAS The continued development of Interstate Highway 35 is vital to the efficient movement of both imported and exported goods which are the life blood of NAFTA and all that it stands for• and WHEREAS The substantial volume of trade which has flowed for years along the Interstate Highway 35 Corridor has contributed substantially to the personal and business relationships and level of commerce which led to the signing of the North American Free Trade Agreement; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH That Interstate Highway 35 from the US-Mexico border at Laredo to the US-Canada border near Duluth, Minnesota be referred to by one and all m written and oral communications, both public and private as the NAFTA Highway and CITY OF FORT WORTH CITY OF FORT WORTH
