HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 1912J A Resolut°on 1~£SOLUTIQi~I NO. ~~ SUPPORTING THE IMPLEMENTATION OF COMMUTER RAIL SERVICE ON THE D/FW RAILTRAN SYSTEM CORRIDOR WHEREAS, the Cities of Fort Worth and Dallas, Texas (collectively the "Cities"~, acquired certain railroad right-of-way connecting the Cities pursuant to the D/FW RAILTRAN Contract dated January 18, 1984; and WHEREAS, the original concept for the purchase was the preservation of this vital link between the two Cities for mass transportation, local freight service, and job creation and retention; and WHEREAS, the Fort Worth Transportation Authority (The T) and . Dallas Area Rapid Transit (collectively the "Transit `..- Authorities"j have expressed a desire and have started planning efforts to use this corridor for commuter rail ' service between the. two Cities with a link to D/FW International Airport; and WHEREAS, it would be mutually beneficial to the citizens of the Cities of Fort Worth and Dallas to have commuter railroad service operating on the RAILTRAN right-of-way between the Cities and linking D/FW International Airport to relieve traffic congestion and aid in attaining federal air quality standards. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That the Council supports the planning and implementation of commuter rail service on the RAILTRAN Corridor between Fort Worth and Dallas and to D1FW International Airport; and SECTION 2. That ,tYie~'•Gduncil supports the negotiation of appropriate agreements`~witli the freight railroads utilizing the Corridor so as to' provcle~}for the acquisition of operating and dispatching rights necessary ,to ,the efficient functioning of commuter rail service while accommodating the needs of freight railroads and their customers on the Corridor; and ._, . , CITY OF FORT WORTH ~• ..<, ~~. SECTION 3. That the Council supports The T's 1994-1998 Service Plan which limits contributions for street maintenance to a maximum of 15~ of sales tax revenue collected in Fort Worth; and SECTION 4. That the Council supports an Interlocal Agreement between the Cities and the Transit Authorities which would establish the conditions under which commuter rail service is provided on the D/FW RAILTRAN System Corridor.
