CONGRATULATING THE TEXAS MU1vICIPAL LEAGUE
ON A SUCCESSFUL LEGISLATIVE SESSION
AND
EXTENDING APPRECIATION TO THE TML STAFF
VPHEREAS, every two years, the Texas Municipal League develops and adopts a
legislative program to be presented to the Texas Legislature for consideration during
each session; and
WI~REAS, for the 73rd Texas Legislative Session, the League adopted 18 priority
items that addressed a wide range of issues from competitive bidding to platting; and
WI-IEREAS, each session the League has to concentrate virtually all of its efforts
protecting the interests of cities by killing bad legislation, leaving little time to pass
beneficial legislation; and
WHEREAS, this session, under the leadership of President Gary McCaleb, First
Vice-President Fred Guerra and Second Vice President Max Wells, and the tireless
efforts of Frank Sturzl, Executive Director; Susan Horton, General Counsel; Walter
Fisher, Legislative Director; Shanna Igo, Legislative Associate; Karen Kennard,
Legislative Associate and the TML legal and support staff, the League experienced
one of its most successful sessions, passing 14 of 18 priority items while at the same
time killing or modifying a countless number of bills;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Fort Worth City Council that the
City Council wishes to congratulate the Texas Municipal League for a successful
legislative session and request that Mayor Pro Tem Virginia Nell Webber; as the
City's representative on the Texas Municipal League Board of Directors, personally
extend the City's appreciation to President McCaleb and the TML Board, and to
Frank Sturzl and the TML staff for their efforts on behalf of all cities.
