WHEREAS, Calvin Littlejohn passed from this life on September 6, 1993; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Littlejohn , a native of Cotton Plant, Arkansas and the son of former slaves
who studied at Philander Smith College in Little Rock, came to Fort Worth in 1934 and immediately became
a part of the community through both his work and photography of virtually every facet of life in the
African-American community; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Littlejohn and his camera became a familiar sight at Fort Worth events,
from weddings and parties to presidential visits and City Hall events, providing a photographic history of
African-American lives that not only filled thousands upon thousands of family albums, but which also has
graced the pages of many local newspapers, from the Lake Como Monitor to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram;
and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Littlejohn's devotion to the community not only was evident in his work;
but also in his dedicated toil to improve the Evans Avenue business district; his untiring efforts to preserve
and protect the rich heritage of Fort Worth African-Americans through the Tarrant County Black Historical
and Genealogical Society; and his avocation to make Southeast Fort Worth a better place to live by sharing
his outstanding gardening skills through community gardens which he organized; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Littlejohn not only had a great and deep love for his community and city,
but also for his family, his friends, his fellow Allen Chapel AME church members and fellow citizens.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY

OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS, on September 14, 1993:
THAT the family of Calvin Littlejohn be given the condolences of the City of Fort Worth
as it shares with them the grief resulting from the loss of a deeply respected member of this community and
an outstanding citizen of Fort Worth; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this memorial resolution be spread upon
the minutes of City Council and that a copy be furnished to the family of Mr. Calvin Littlejohn as an
expression by the City Council members of their sympathy.
