HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 1505~i R~®lu~®n NO. ~~~ WHEREAS, the City of Fort Worth has become involved in litigation under the Workers' Compensation laws of the State of Texas; and WHEREAS, the said litigation concerns lawsuits filed by City empioyees who are seeking to recover money damages for alleged loss of hearing ability alleged to be the result of employment activities experienced while employed by the City; and WHEREAS, the nature of the litigation is extremely complex and it is of extraordinary importance that the City retain out- side legal counsel with specialized knowledge and exper- tise in medical related litigation to assist the City Attorney on an interim basis in these disputes; and WHEREAS, the members of the law firm of Gandy, Michener, Swindle, Whitaker and Pratt are well recognized as having the knowledge and expertise in the, field of medical litiga- tion; and WHEREAS, the law firm of Gandy, Michener, Swindle, Whitaker and Pratt have agreed to assist and consult with the City Attorney in the preparation and trial of said suits as needed; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That the law firm of Gandy, Michener, Swindle, Whitaker and Pratt be retained as outside counsel pursuant to Chapter VI, Section 3, of the City's Charter to assist the City Attorney on an interim basis in the preparation and representation of the City's interests in said Workers' Compensation litigation; and SECTION 2.
