Subject: HMCC - pedestrian route at north of dumpster closure Attachments: HMCC ADA Ramp.pdf; D546.pdf Alfonso, Steve, I would like to request revising something which I indicated in my email on May 2 when responding to Steve's email regarding Urban Forestry and Parking Changes. ADA ramp is necessary instead of a stair between the northeast corner of the building and the existing playground/covered picnic area. Elevation gap between the door at NE corner of building and existing pavement is approx. 3.5 FT. It seems to be possible to replace the stair with one 1/12 slope ramp with handrails and a slope less than 5% as shown conceptually below. EX. I' Ebl COVERED PICNIC AREA Also, the attached PDF is the preliminary examination that I did, and it seems to work. Need of ADA accessible circulation between the center and the existing playground/picnic area has been addressed during the design process, and GSBS has consistently recognized the need. I At 50% CD, an ADA ramp was proposed just next to a stair, but it was abandoned because it damages the rood zone of existing tree. At 95% CD, GSBS proposed to have an ADA route with a ramp through the parking lot until 100% CD set. The recent parking lot redesign eliminated this ADA ramp, and the stair remained. 50% CD 95% CD Vl-%, 7 • :iL A r .•at 9 o rte_ 41/ ! . Y.'jM 4JYn , L The attached proposed scheme requires a retaining wall at the edge of the ramp for the lower half of the ramp for which City's standard detail D546 can be utilized, which is also attached. A part of dumpster enclosure will become a retaining wall for this, so that, it may need to be revised as well.
