HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 1473`'n.:: ,~.. ~@50211~10~L nesoLUTtort rio•~ COMMITTING LOCAL FUNDS TD MATCH A NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE ARTS LOCAL PROGRAM GRANT -~:_ WHEREAS, on May 23, 1989, the City Council approved the submission of a Letter of Intent to the Local Program of the National Endowment for the Arts for funds to promote excellence in local performing arts in Fort Worth; and, WHEREAS, on August 8, 1989, the Council authorized the Mayor to sign a grant application in the amount of ;300,000; and, WHEREAS, the NEA grant requires a match of at least (600,000 in local pub- lic money over a three-year period; and, WHEREAS, the Arts Council has, through its planning process, identified excellence, arts education and community outreach as its three principle goals; and, WHEREAS, arts professionals can provide an enrichment for all youth and serve as role models for talented youth; and, WHEREAS, the City of Fort Worth has excellent arts organizations in the underserved areas of Fort Worth which desire to develop educational outreach programs throughout the City of Fort Worth primarily in the disadvantaged areas of the city:; and, WHEREAS, the grant program will have as a primary focus, support of family-oriented events in the neighborhood parks and centers in areas of the community which previously have not had access to such programs; and, WHEREAS, the Arts Council also proposes to develop and schedule arts education programs throughout the community for children and young people, in- cluding an arts in the park Sumner camp; and, WHEREAS, an Advisory Committee of nine members comprised of Councilman Eugene Mc Cray, Park and Recreation Director Ralph W. Emerson, Arts Council Ex- ecutive Director Suzanne Lasko, Park and Recreation Advisory Chairwoman Elaine Petrus, Arts Council members Carol Alexander and Pete 6eren and representatives from arts groups in the community will serve as the facilitators and developer of the educational and outreach component and will monitor its implementation; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council endorses the plans for the Community Arts Program; and, ***2nd to last paragraph was amended to read as follows: WHEREAS, an Advisory Committee of members comprised of respresentatives of the City Council, Arts Council, Park and Recreation Advisory Board, Director of the Park and Recreation Advisory Board and representatives of arts groups in communities are to be involved. 6RL''T 0>P P08'd' NoaEZ~ ;~ ' BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Fort Worth, Texas, appoints the Arts Council of Fort Morth and Tarrant County as the desig- nated Arts Council to administer the City funds generated by the City Arts En- dowment; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council will dedicate interest earn- ings in the amount of 5200,000 in FY 1989-90, 1996-91 and 1991-92 fran the S3 million in the General Fund Fund Balance designated for the purpose of this en- dor~ment.
