TO PROVIDE TESTIMONY
FOR THE TRANSPORTATION 2020 PROJECT
•' WHEREAS, the City of Fort Worth recognizes that transportation and its
supporting infrastructure is vital to the economic growth of the City, region,
state and nation;
WHEREAS, the American Association of State Highway and
Transportation Officials and the National Highway Users Federation are
soliciting testimony regarding the transportation needs of the nation for the
future; and
WHEREAS, the above-mentioned organizations plan to use that testimony
to influence future national and state transportation policies;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS:
That the City of Fort Worth supports the concept of the
Transportation 2020 project and the Mayor will provide testimony
supporting the following concepts at the February 9, 1988
hearing:
• continued federal and state funding of infrastructure and
°' transit projects;
• increased dedicated, locally controlled share of federal and
state motor fuel tax revenues;
• increased ability to combine federal, state and local funds
for local projects without the time-consuming federal and
state constraints that currently exist;
• continued and increased support from the state for
transitway projects and Park & Ride reservations of land in
conjunction with state highway projects;
• continued improvements to state highways and roads;
• continued state assistance in improvements of and additions
to the arterial system; and
• continued 'state support for the Southwest Freeway project
and other viable projects in developing areas of Fort Worth.
