yj WHEREAS, Public Law 99-576 (section 412), Veterans Benefit
9Improvement and Health-Care Authorization Act of 1986, directed the Veterans
Administration to submit a report on the National Cemetery System to the
Committee on Veterans Affairs of the Senate and House of Representatives; and,
WHEREAS, the report was to include, as a minimum, a plan for the
operation of the National Cemetery System through the year 2000 and, a
description of anticipated general trends in its operation between the years
2000 and 2020; and,
WHEREAS, the Dallas-Fort Worth area ranked 7th on the Ueterans
Administration list of the 10 geographic areas in the United States in which
the need for additional burial space for veterans is greatest; and,
WHEREAS, the Veterans Administration has determined that the
incorporation of existing State veteran cemeteries into the National Cemetery
System is neither feasible nor advisable; and,
WHEREAS, the three National Cemeteries in~the State of Texas are all
located 300 miles or more from Dalls-Fort Worth: NOW, THEREFORE,
~, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS,
That the City Council of the City of Fort Worth, Texas, declares its
support for the establishment of a National Cemetery in the North Texas region,
to be located in or convenient to Dallas and Tarrant Counties.
