A RESOLUTION SUPPORTII+~ PARTICIPATION OF THE POLYTFxHNIC MAIN STREET PROJFX.T, INC. IN
THE TEXAS MAIN STREET PROJECT AS ASELF-INITIATED URBAN PROJECT.
WHFJiEAS, the Texas Main Street Project of the Texas Historical Crnnussion has been
created to assist cities tv develop public/private initiatives to revitalize their
downtowns or neighborhood camiercial areas, and
WHIItEAS, the Texas Main Street Project has established criteria for designation as a
self-initiated urban Main Street Project and a program of limited assistance to
qualifying projects, and
WHEREAS, the Polytechnic Main Street Project, Inc. has been participating in such
revitalization efforts since January, 1987 in the Polytechnic Heights ca~miercial area,
and
WHEREAS, the Polytechnic Main Street Project, Inc. Board of Directors and City staff
have reviewed the criteria for the Polytechnic Heights camiercial area's continued
designation as aself-initiated urban Main Street Project and recamend that these
criteria be accepted by the City, and
WHEREAS, the Polytechnic Main Street Project, Inc. Hoard of Directors reccm~nds that
the City join with the Board to undertake the Texas Nain Street Project in the
Polytechnic Heights oom~rcial area;
THEREFI~RE BE IT RESOLVID BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FLIRT WORTH, TEXAS:
SFY.'1'ION 1: That the City of Fort Worth, Texas supports and accepts the criteria for
the Polytechnic Heights commercial area's designation as aself-initiated urban Main
Street Project.
SECTION 2: That the City of Fort Worth will cooperate with Polytechnic Main Street
Project, Inc. Board of Directors to achieve the goals of the Texas Main Street Project.
SECTION 3: That the City of Fort Worth. recommends to the Polytechnic. Main Street
Project, Inc. Board of Directors that the Main Street Project be funded with resources
available and that afull-time Main Street Project Manager be employed.
SFX'I'ION 4: That the Polytechnic Main Street Project, Inc. Hoard of Directors, whose
ors include representatives from Texas Wesleyan College, the Mayor's Task Force on
Polytechnic Heights (Polytechnic Heights Strategy Committee), the Polytechnic Heights
Business Association, and the City Planning Department, be designated to oversee the
activities of the Main Street Project N~anager.
