WHEREAS, the City of Fort Worth is named after General William Jenkins Worth, the United States Army commander who was responsible for creating an outpost at the confluence of the west and clear forks of the Trinity River in 1848, and, WHEREAS, the life and contributions of General Worth have in recent years been brought to light by self-appointed General Worth historical Bill Turner; and, WHEREAS, Bill for the outfitting and hotels, for the General and History, for the G now for the renaming of THEREFORE, Turner was responsible virtually singlehandedly naming of General Worth rooms at two Fort Worth Worth display at the Fort Worth Museum of Science eneral Worth historical marker in City Hall, and Main Street Plaza to General Worth Square NOW, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE City Council of Fort Worth, Texas That the City of Fort Worth expresses its appreciation to Bill Turner for taking the responsibility for researching and preserving the contributions made by the founder of Fort Worth -- General William Jenkins Worth, and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Fort Worth City Council awards the title of "General Worth Historian" on Bill Turner in recognition of his work over the years to keep General Worth's memory alive in the City he founded Passed this the ay of 1987 APPROVED BY CITY COUNCIL s MAY 12 1987 City Secretary of the City of Fort Worth, TexaB CITY OF FORT WORTH
