A Resolution Adopted Resolution I 110
WHEREAS, the City of Fort Worth utilizes impounded surface water as the source
of drinking water for its citizens; and
WHEREAS, a major portion of the watershed areas for the water supply reservoirs
is outside the jurisdictional control of the City of Fort Worth; and
WHEREAS, the major local water supply agencies, including the City of Fort Worth,
and the North Central Texas Council of Governments Water Resources
Council have determined that water supply reservoirs are threatened
by pollution due to unprecendented growth in the water supply
watersheds; and
WHEREAS, seven major water supply agencies, including the City of Fort Worth,
cooperated to form the NCTCOG Reservoir Watershed Management
Program to address this concern; and
WHEREAS, the Reservoir Watershed Management Program Steering Committee
has unanimously adopted a Policy Position on Protection of Water
Supply Reservoirs; and
WHEREAS, the Policy Position has been unanimously endorsed by the NCTCOG
Water Resources Council and unanimously adopted by the NCTCOG
Executive Board; and
WHEREAS, it is essential to adequately protect the water supplies from pollution
and degradation in order to assure the continued distribution of excellent
quality drinking water at a reasonable cost to the citizens.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED by the Fort Worth City Council:
o That the City of Fort Worth strongly
supports efforts to protect and improve
reservoir water quality
o That the City of Fort Worth adopts the
attached Policy Position on Protection
of Water Supply Reservoirs.
