Resolution
WHEREAS, the world's first indoor rodeo was held in the North Side
Coliseum, and,
WHEREAS, Bill Pickett, the only Black cowboy honored in the Cowboy
Hall of Fame, introduced bulldogging to rodeo in the early 1900's; and,
WHEREAS, two significant bronze statues commemorating our City's
western heritage have been unveiled in the Stockyards District during the
past year; and,
WHEREAS, the North Fort Worth Historical Society has proposed to
present a life-size bronze of Bill Pickett to the City of Fort Worth to be
located in the Coliseum Courtyard, and.,
WHEREAS, the Art Commission has reviewed the project proposal and
unanimously recommends its acceptance by the City;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Fort Worth accepts
the proposed statue of Bill Pickett on behalf of all its citizens and com-
mends the North Fort Worth Historical Society for its continuing interest in
preserving and commemorating Fort Worth's western heritage.
