October 5, 2018 Mr. Clint Hoover,P.E., MBA Senior Project Manager City of Fort Worth Transportation and Public Works Department 200 Texas Street Fort Worth, Texas 76102 Re: CPN#101369,Main and Long Signal Design—Request for Fee Increase Dear Mr. Hoover: As you are aware, Teal Engineering is preparing Plans, Specifications, and Estimates (PS&E)for a new traffic signal at the intersection of North Main Street and Long Avenue. This letter documents our request for a fee increase to cover additional, unanticipated changes in the scope. As you recall, during the 60 percent peer review meeting in June,we identified several issues for City consideration related to the design of the traffic signal. These issues included closure of existing driveways, the opportunity to add a channelized right turn lane for northbound to eastbound vehicles, and the encroachment of the shopping center sign on the southeast corner onto City right-of-way. After careful consideration, the City elected to proceed with the following: 1. Add the channelized right turn lane for northbound to eastbound vehicles. 2. Close two existing driveways on the Northeast corner on the intersection. 3. Removal and relocation of the existing shopping center sign encroaching on City owned ROW in the Southeast corner. These directives were provided to us in early July and we proceeded with including them in our ninety percent design submittal. As you can imagine, the additions required major design changes in our design package. On September 27, 2018 we were informed that the City had decided to remove the channelized right turn lane from the design package and allow the existing sign to remain in place. The driveway closures on the northeast corner will remain part of the design package. We look forward to incorporating these changes and completed the design package quickly. We estimate that the inclusion of the channelized right turn lane would have almost doubled the construction cost of the project and have expended an appropriate level of effort during the final design task on this element of the design. Our engineering cost related to the design of the channelized right turn lane total $18,720.00. To complete the design package based on the information we discussed yesterday, we estimate that the additional costs will total $8400. 2000 DENISON STREET,STE 103,DENTON,TX 76201 PH(940)637-2364, FAX:(940)637-2374 PAGE I TEAL ENGINEERING SERVICES, INC. In summary, our budget increase is as follows: Design cost for channelized right turn lane: $18,720.00 Design cost to complete: $ 7,975.00 Total Request: $26,695.00 I have attached a LOE spreadsheet to illustrate how the hours are distributed. Please let me know if you need any additional information. I look forward to hearing from you soon. Sincerely, TEAL Engineering Services,Inc. Gary D Jost, P.E.
