The purpose of the sign district is to establish a uniform and comprehensive standard which is compatible with the architecture and generally larger than allowed under the city standard sign regulation. The sign district concept has evolved as a result of discussions on how to best support the Cultural District diverse communication needs including traffic and event messaging which will become increasingly more important and necessary with the opening of the Dickies Arena and the continued success in hosting events at the Will Rogers Memorial Center. The attached map is of the proposed sign district boundary with sign locations and rendering depicting the proposed sign designs. For reference purposes also included is comparison of existing sign regulation and those which would be allowed under the proposed sign district if approved. A comprehensive approach as contemplated by the creation of the sign district offers an opportunity for all of the non-profit entities within the district (WRMC, Fort Worth Botanic Gardens, Dickies Arena, Museum of Natural Science, National Cowgirls Hall of Fame Museum, Casa Manana, and the Community Arts Museum) which are included within the sign district boundaries to be better served through a managed system and shared resource. Councilmember Shingleton has expressed support for proceeding with the sign district. . The proposed freeway sign within the Botanic Garden will require a Chapter 26 park conversion. Staff has prepared the following schedule in coordination with Event Facilities Fort Worth, Inc.
