DISCUSSION: The Texas Water Development Board offers Flood Protection Planning grants for the evaluation of structural and nonstructural solutions to flooding problems within a watershed. The goal of the Flood Protection Planning Grant is to plan for and implement flood protection measures that reduce or eliminate flooding. The proposed study area must be regional in nature by inclusion of the entire watershed and must consider the upstream and/or downstream impacts of flood protection measures. The money from this grant will be used to perform a detailed study of stream MSC-2, a tributary to Marys Creek located on the west side of Fort Worth. The scope of work will include a detailed study to determine the extent of existing problems resulting from or relating to flooding, identification of potential solutions, estimating the benefits and costs of the potential solutions and development of a flood mitigation plan for properties and roadways that are subject to flooding. It is anticipated to cost $197,900.00 for a qualified engineer to perform this study based on the size of the watershed. The project is located in COUNCIL DISTRICTS 3 and 7.
