DISCUSSION: In response to the City Council's strategic goal to strengthen the economic base, develop the future workforce and create quality job opportunities, the Fort Worth Public Library plans to operate the Meadowbrook Branch Library with an additional emphasis on providing workforce services and resources. The building will be redesigned and renovated to provide greater flexibility for library services, job search services, career consultation and computer-based training. Working with the Transportation and Public Works Department's Architectural Services Division, renovations will include: upgrades to electrical systems and computer network infrastructure to accommodate additional computers and online resources; repainting; asbestos abatement; replacement of floor covering and the ceiling the grid; and construction of a meeting room that will accommodate training and instruction. All work will be performed with either City personnel or using previously authorized contracts. Therefore, no additional contracting authority is required.
