DISCUSSION: The attached ordinance amends Article IV, Chapter 2, Division 4 of the City Code by removing the requirement that the Director of the Department of Transportation and Public Works be a registered professional engineer licensed to practice in Texas. However, both the city engineer and the city traffic engineer will now be required by code to possess a valid Texas professional engineering license. This action is consistent with the City Manager's desire to cast a broad net in its search for a director to effectively lead the department while ensuring technical expertise at appropriate levels. This is for ALL COUNCIL DISTRICTS. This M&C does not request approval of a contract with a business entity.
