Subject: Prapased Gotechnica( Study
Street Reconstruction an Colvin, Irma, and Robei-s Sfreets
Fort Worth, Texas
Dear Mr. Bosco:
As requested, we are pleased to submit this proposal for professional geotechnicai
engineering services. We understand that portions of three existing residential
roadways in the City of Fort Worth are being planned for reconstruction. The roadway
sections are as follows:
e Colvin Street — 1800 litiear feet from Nw York Avenue to Beverly Avenue
e Irma Street — 780 linear feet from Evans Avenue to New York Avenue
b Roberts Street — 515 linear feet from IH35 W South Freeway to Evans Street
The purpose of the proposed study will be to provide geatechnical engineering
recommendatians for use in the design of the roadways. The scope of service indudes
exploring subsurface soil conditions, obtaining physical soil properties ly laboratory
testing, and providing geoteciinical reconimendations for use in determining subgrade
treatment and pavement thickness complying with the City of Fort Warth Transportation
and Public UVorks Department Pavement Design Standards Manual 2005,

• Drill S barings to a depth of approximately 10 feet below the existing pavemnt or
to the top of rock, whiehever is less, within the existing roadway as follows:
o Colvin Street — 4 borings
o Irma Street — 2 borings
o F2aberts Street — 2 borings
If trafFic contral during drilling is required by the City of Fort Worth, it will be
provided by Kleinfelder and consist of 2 flagmen to direct vehieles round the
roorlc site and traffic cones at both the front and rear of the work zone. (Ineluded
in fee.)
s Obtain relatively uiiclisturbed thin-walled tube samples and standard penetration
fest samples as appropriate for the soils encountered
Observe for groui7c)water seepage during drilling and record level
• Backfiif boreholes with sand backfill, plug top with hydrated beiltonite chips, and
pateh top G inches with concrete mix or cold mix asphalt, according to Design
Manual.
LaboratorV Testinq
Selected laboratory testing will be canducted on samples that are representative of
materials obtained during the fieid exploration. The tests wili be used fa evaluate and
classify the soils, identify subsurface site characteristics, and provide data for analysis.
These tests include
o Atterberg limits (liquid and plastic limits, 8 tests maximum)
s Percent passing No. 200 sieve (8 tests maximum)
• Moisture content (24 tests maximum)
s Sweil at overburden (3 tests maxinum)
• Soluble sulfates by Golorimeter (3 tests maximum)
@ Optimum lime content (Eades & Grim) (3 tests maximum)
Q Unconsolidated-Undrained (UU) triaxial tests (8 tests maximum)
Kleinfelder will retain soil nd rock samples for 30 days after complefion of laboratory
testing. Further storage or transfer of samples can be made at the owner's expense
upon written request.

Enqineerinq Analvsis and Report
An engineering analysis and evaluation of the field and laboratary data will be
performed for the project, based on available project coi7cepts. Information Ea be
provided in the report includes
• Plan of borings illustrating the approximate 1ocation of each boring and scale to
whicli the dravuing is made
e A log of each boring indicating the boring number, depth of each stratum, soil
classification and description, and groundwater information
• Summary of laboratory test results
• Discussion of subsurface soil and graundwater conditions
• Calculafe potential verfical rise (PVR)
o Calculate pavement thickness in accordance with fhe City of Fort Worth
Pavement Design Standards Manual 2005
• Recommendations for subgrade modification/stabilization as appropriate
• Recommendations regarding earthwark operations, site grading, drainage and
other aspects af construction that impact expansive soil and/or pavement system
performance
• Four bound copies of the reort
INFORMATICiN/SERVICES PfC)VIDED BY 'REESE AN N(GHOLS
• Provide us with available plans or current survey information regarding locations
of existing subsurface utilities or other structures or items that might be damaged
during the field exploration program.
o Survey locations of boreholes if that degree of accuracy is required; otherwise
borings locations will be based on measurements taken from existing landmarks
ADD(TIONAL SERVECES

Any costs, including equiprrtent replacement where applicable, associated with
decontaminatipn of personnel or equipment s a result of encountering
hazardous or toxic materials at the site
• Specialty equipment or time required to achieve access to boring locations, other
than a truck-mounted cirilling rig.

Kleinfelder proposes to perform the Basic Services for a lurrp-sun fee of $9,OQ. This
amount will not be xceeded without prior approvai. Freese and Nichols and Kleinfelder
may subsequently agree ii7 writing to provide for additional services to be renderd
under this agreemnt for additional, negotiated compensation. Services provided by
Kleinfelder will be consistent with the engineering standards prevailing at the time and in
the area that the work is performed; na other tnarranty, express or implied, is intended.
ANTICIPATED SCHEQULE
The field coordination will begin 2 to 3 days from the time authorization. Typically,
obtaining a streets use permit, marking the boring locations and meeting with the City of
Forf tNorth Public Works Department for utility clearance requires 2 to 3 days. The
fieldwork will begin ance the boring lacations have been cleared by both Texas One Gall
system and fhe Gity of Fort Worth and a streets use permit is received from the City.
The fieldwork will require approximately 1 day, depending on wcather conditions. The
laboratory testing should be completed within 2 weeks after completion of the field
exploration. The analyses and report preparation should be completed within 2 weks
after compietion of the laboratory testing.
LEMtTATIONS
Our work will be perFormed and findings obtained in substantial conformance with the
geofechnical engineering practice that exists within the area at the time of our
investigation. No warranty, either express or implied, is rnade.
We appreciate the opportunity to continue our work on this project and look forward to
working with you. Please call if you have questions,
Sincerely,
KLEINFELDER
