AMENDMENT TO CITY SECRETARY CONTRACT NO. 31847 SAFE CITY COMMISSION STATE OF TEXAS § COUNTIES OF TARRANT § AND DENTON § This Agreement is made between the City of Fort Worth, a municipal corporation, acting herein by and through Joe Paniagua, its duly authorized Assistant City Manager, and the Safe City Commission, acting by and through Joel Glenn, its duly elected President. WHEREAS, the City of Fort Worth ("City") and the Safe City Commission entered into an Agreement identified as City Secretary Contract No. 31847; and WHEREAS, it is the mutual desire of the parties to said City Secretary Contract No. 31847, that its term be renewed for a period of time beginning October 1, 2006 and ending on September 30, 2007; and WHEREAS, the "City" has received funds from the Fort Worth Crime Control and Prevention District to support the extension of this contract; NOW THEREFORE, KNOW ALL BY THESE PRESENTS: 1. City Secretary Contract No. 31847, currently on file in the office of the City Secretary of the City of Fort Worth, is hereby renewed and extended in its entirety for a period beginning October 1, 2006 and ending September 30, 2007. 2. City agrees to pay an amount not to exceed $60,195 using general revenue funds, $175,000 using Fort Worth Crime Control and Prevention District funds, for a total of $235,195 in support of the community advocacy for crime prevention programs. Payments to the Safe City Commission shall be in four equal quarterly installments of $58,799 following receipt of a signed original invoice to be made on the first business day of October, January, April and July of the contract year. 3. V >J��L' VSlij1S �'U�U 11:lij Page 1 of 2 City of Fort Worth, Texas Mayor and Council Communication COUNCIL ACTION: Approved on 10/17/2006 DATE: Tuesday, October 17, 2006 LOG NAME: 35SAFECITY REFERENCE NO.: C-21786 SUBJECT: Authorize the Execution of an Amendment to City Secretary Contract No. 31847 with the Safe City Commission to Continue Operation of the Community Advocacy for Crime Prevention Programs RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the City Council authorize the City Manager to execute a contract amendment for $235,195 with the Safe City Commission to extend the term of the agreement to FY2006-2007 to continue operation of a community advocacy for crime prevention program. DISCUSSION: On April 5, 2005, (M&C C-20640) the City Council authorized the City Manager to execute City Secretary Contract No. 31847 with the Safe City Commission in order to continue the important role of a crime commission in Fort Worth. Specific programmatic and deliverable guidelines were developed and integrated into a contract with this agency for a crime prevention and education program and a community advocacy for crime prevention program. This Mayor and Council Communication authorizes the amendment of that contract to extend the existing contract terms to FY2006-2007. Funding in the amount of $60,195 from General Fund and $175,000 in the Crime Control and Prevention District continues in FY2006-2007. The Safe City Commission's goal is to help make Fort Worth the safest major city in the United States through its partnership with the community, schools, and law enforcement. Its initiatives promote a culture of non -violence among the City's youth. The Safe City Commission crime prevention initiatives include the "Imagine No Violence" program which incorporates an art and creative writing contest for students expressing non -violence concepts through their creativity, the "Gun Crime Means Hard Time" multi -media campaign conveys the priority law enforcement places on prosecution of gun crime, and "Bright Futures" a ten -week program empowers youth with the knowledge and skills needed to avoid youth violence. The Safe City Commission Crime Stoppers program is another initiative vital to the crime reduction efforts of the City. The program provides anonymity to citizens who provide information on crime tips and rewards information leading to an arrest. The Safe City Commission is a vital advocate of the City of Fort Worth's crime prevention efforts.
