SUBJECT: PENSION REFORM EDUCATION CAMPAIGN
In an effort to ensure all City of Fort Worth employees are informed and engaged in the Pension
Reform initiative, staff is executing a four-week citywide employee educational campaign. A focus
group of employees from all levels was assembled to review the effectiveness of the materials
prior to the beginning of the campaign.
From January 7 February 1, the campaign includes the following:
Employee Educational Meetings (more than 30 meetings held through February 1)
o Meetings for all employee groups at City Hall
o Specific department meetings
Targeted at mobile/field employees in Parks, TPW, Water and Library
departments including meetings for all Spanish-speaking employees
Special department meetings for Police and Fire at Bob Bolen
Handouts and Online Information Portal http://fortworthtexas.gov/benefits/pension/ and
Handouts
o Information separated by employee groups
o One-page flyers with information specific to each employee group
o Frequently asked questions (FAQs)
o Glossary of terms
o Schedule of education meetings
o History of pension discussions, presentations and articles
Traditional Communications
o Weekly articles in the Roundup (daily employee e-newsletter)
Deep dives into pension focused issues
Educational highlights based on employee feedback
o Weekly outreach to Human Resource Coordinators (HRCs) to promote important
information by department
o Communications sent to update retirees on COLA and pension decisions
Marketing Materials
o Printed posters and flyers with reminders about the vote February 4-Feburary 22
City Leadership Engagement & Continuous Outreach
o Direct messaging from City Manager David Cooke
o Direct video message from Mayor Betsy Price
Additionally, there is a pension email address pension@fortworthtexas.gov and phone number
817-392-7737 available for employees to ask specific/personal questions and receive a response
within a timely manner, generally 24-48 hours.
