SUBJECT: EXPANDED LIBRARY HOURS
In FY09, the Fort Worth Public Library reduced public service hours by 26% at the Central
Library, 38% at East and Southwest Regionals, and 5% at the remaining branches. This was done
to compensate for a budget reduction. Aside from a small adjustment in FY14, these reduced hours
have remained the same for the past decade.
The current hours, which are not consistent across branches, have been found to be confusing by
our patrons. Often, the hours limit opportunities for our citizens to visit, contributing to the
and open times change daily from location to location. The addition of authorized positions since
FY09 gives the library the ability to expand hours with no additional staff and within the
authorized budget.
The new Hours will officially begin on Saturday April 6, 2019, with a soft launch on Saturday
March 30, 2019. This week was chosen to coincide with National Library Week, whose 2019
theme is Libraries=Strong Communities. The library is adding an additional 114 open hours across
the system per week, as well as consistency in opening and closing times. They will be open more
evenings during the week, which will help working families, as well as being open Sundays at
three locations.
The public awareness campaign will take place March 30-April 6 and will utilize City News, social
media (library and city pages), notification inside library locations, Nextdoor, press release, new
hours brochure, and more.
The library will expand hours as outlined below:

SUBJECT: EXPANDED LIBRARY HOURS
The BOLD (Butler Outreach Library Division) and COOL (Cavile Outreach Library Division)
satellite locations are used primarily by the residents of Butler and Cavile housing and operate with
limited staff. With the closing of Butler occurring sometime in the near future and the
redevelopment plans for Cavile ongoing, it does not make sense to change hours at those locations
at this time. In addition, the temporary location at Cambridge Court in Las Vegas Trail will have
separate hours that
branch. Expanded hours will impact the other 15 locations including Golden Triangle, which is
scheduled to open in 2019.
If you have any questions please contact Manya Shorr, Library Director at (817) 392-7706.
