HomeMy WebLinkAboutIR 10265 INFORMAL REPORT TO CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS No. 10265 May 7, 2019 To the Mayor and Members of the City Council Page 1 of 1 SUBJECT: ICMA / U.S. ARMY INSTALLATION COMMAND FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM During the week of May 12-18, the City of Fort Worth will be hosting Ms. Allison Long, Director of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation for U.S. Army Garrison Alaska as part of a program sponsored by the U.S. Army and the International City/County Management Association (ICMA). This program, known as the Installation Command Fellowship Program, provides the civilian managers of selected Army garrisons with on-the-job training in city management and community relations on the premise that managing a military installation is much like managing a city. The City of Fort Worth is one of twelve local governments eleven cities and one county that ICMA has selected to participate this year in the Installation Command Fellowship Program. Fort Worth served as a pilot for this program in 2015and was one of ten local governments hosting Army installation managers in 2018. During her week in Fort Worth, Ms. Long will be meeting directly with many City officials and civic leaders, observing other business meetings, touring various City facilities, and participating in other activities that are relevant to her work in the Army. The following are some of the items on her schedule: Mayor Betsy Price Councilmember Dennis Shingleton Councilmember Jungus Jordan Meeting directly with City Manager David Cooke City officials and Assistant City Managers Susan Alanis, Jay Chapa, Fernando Costa, and Valerie Washington civic leaders Eleven department heads and five assistant directors Captain Jon Townsend, USN, Commanding Officer, Naval Air Station Fort Worth Joint Reserve Base TD Smyers, President, United Way of Tarrant County, and former JRB Commanding Officer City Council work session and regular meeting Observing other City M staff meeting business meetings Cross-section of approximately 25 C Bob Bolen Public Safety Complex Joint Emergency Operations Center Village Creek Water Reclamation Facility and Rolling Hills Water Treatment Plant Meacham International Airport Touring City facilities Fleet maintenance facility at James Avenue Service Center Central Library Rockwood Golf Course Dinner hosted by Robin Akin (Brigadier General, USA, Retired) Participating in Bike ride along Trinity River Trails with Mike Brennan, board member, Fort Worth Bike Sharing Tour of Stockyards National Historic District with Dana Burghdoff and Brandon Bennett other activities Meeting of Rotary Club of Fort Worth If you have any questions about this program, please contact Assistant City Manager Fernando Costa at 817-392-6122.
