WHEREAS, the 2017-2020 Transportation Improvement Program ("TIP") and the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program ("STIP"), administered by the Texas Department of Transportation ("TXDOT"), provides funding for programs and projects that increase the safety and security of transportation system for motorized and non-motorized users; and WHEREAS, on May 7, 2018, the City of Fort Worth and the Texas Department of Transportation entered into an Advance Funding Agreement (CSC No. 52111, TXDOT CSJ#0902-90-087) for the Purchase and Installation of Traffic Signal Communication Equipment for the Regional Traffic Signal Retiming Project throughout the City; and WHEREAS, the City of Fort Worth requested a revision to increase number of locations from 33 to 140 to utilize available funds to procure and install communication equipment at additional locations, which request was approved by TXDOT; and WHEREAS, the project is estimated to remain at the original cost of $146,000.00 of which City participation is in the amount of $29,200.00; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH, THAT: The City Manager is authorized to execute Amendment No. 1 to the Local Transportation Project Advance Funding Agreement with the Texas Department of Transportation for the Purchase and Installation of Traffic Signal Communication Equipment for the Regional Traffic Signal Retiming Project throughout the City in Fort Worth thereby increasing the total number of locations from 33 to 140 at no additional cost. DISCUSSION: The purpose of this M& C is to adopt a Resolution authorizing the execution of Amendment No. 1 to a Local Project Advance Funding Agreement(LPAFA)with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) for the Purchase and Installation of Traffic Signal Communication Equipment for the Regional Traffic Signal Retiming Project throughout the City(CSC No. 52111). The amendment allows the city to take advantage of the previously allocated funds to procure and install communication equipment at 107 more signalized intersections, an increase from 33 to 140. The communication equipment will enable staff to monitor and manage traffic remotely, thus eliminating unnecessary trips to the field and quicker response to issues regarding traffic flows and failed traffic signals and compliments existing equipment.
