HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance 12774 Ordinance No. /pa / ?Z/ AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING $383,000.00 TO THE GENERAL FUND, AND DECREASING THE UNRESERVED, UNDESIGNATED GENERAL FUND BALANCE BY THE SAME AMOUNT FOR THE PURPOSE OF PROVIDING ADDITIONAL FIRE CREW AT FIRE STATION 35; PROVIDING FOR A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; MAKING THIS ORDINANCE CUMULATIVE OF PRIOR ORDINANCES AND REPEALING ALL PRIOR ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH,TEXAS: SECTION 1. That in addition to those amounts allocated to the various City departments for the Fiscal Year 1996-97 and in the Budget of the City Manager, there shall also be increased appropriations in the General Fund, in the amount of$383,000.00; thereby decreasing the unrestricted,undesignated Fund Balance by the same amount,for the purpose providing additional fire crew at Fire Station 35. SECTION 2. Should any portion,section or part of a section of this ordinance be declared invalid, inoperative or void for any reason by a court of competent jurisdiction, such decision, opinion or judgement shall in no way impair the remaining portions, sections, or parts of sections of this ordinance,which said remaining provisions shall be and remain in full force and effect. SECTION 3. That this ordinance shall be cumulative of Ordinance No. 12629 and all other ordinances and appropriations amending the same except in those instances where the provisions of this ordinance are in direct conflict with such other ordinances and appropriations, in which instance said conflicting provisions of said prior ordinances and appropriations are hereby expressly repealed. SECTION 4. This ordinance shall take effect and be in full force and effect and after the date of its passage,and it is so ordained. Adopt the attached supplemental appropriation ordinance increasing General Fund appropriations by $383,000 and decreasing the unreserved, undesignated General Fund balance by the same amount, and 2. Approve the ,use of $383,000 for overtime by the Fire Department for the purpose of providing an additional fire crew at Fire Station 35. DISCUSSION: During deliberations for the FY 1996-97 budget, City Council approved funds to be included in the Fire Department budget for a second 9-person fire company to be assigned to Fire Station 35 (Alliance Airport). Training will begin on January 6, 1997, with the class graduating at the end of June, 1997. City Council expressed its desire at the November 5, 1996 Council Workshop for the Fire Department to begin staffing this fire company immediately. The only option available to the Fire Department for such staffing is hiring firefighters on an overtime basis. An additional $383,000 will fund this hiring from November 9, 1996 through June 30, 1997. FISCAL INFORMATION/CERTIFICATION: The Director of Fiscal Services certifies that upon adoption of the attached supplemental appropriation ordinance, funds for this expenditure will be available in the current operating a budget, as appropriated, of the General Fund.
