With a quorum of the City Council Members present, the Council boarded the plane at
4:40 p.m. at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport to begin their trip to Seattle-Tacoma
International Airport in SeaTac, Washington
The plane landed at approximately 7:20 p.m. PST. The Council boarded a charter bus
and proceeded to the Westin Seattle, 1900 5th Ave. Seattle, WA 98 10 1. Dinner was served in the
hotel's Vashon Meeting Room at 8:30 p.m. Mayor Moncrief began the meeting with opening
comments about the importance of the trip and thanked Andy Taft, the chair of the study
committee and the trip's sponsors. Ethan Melone of the Seattle Department of Transportation
gave a PowerPoint presentation about the Seattle Streetcar to the Council.
The Council met in the Vashon Room for breakfast at 7:00 a.m. on Friday morning.
Ethan Melone, Bob Powers, Seattle Deputy Director of Transportation and Shaunie Cochran, of
Seattle Public Utilities answered questions from the Council. At 8:45 a.m., the Council boarded
the Seattle South Lake Union Streetcar. The streetcar stopped at the South Lake Union
Discovery Center, where information about development activity was provided by Lori Mason
Curran and Ken Johnson. The streetcar arrived back at the Westin Seattle at 10:30 a.m. and the
Council proceeded to board a charter bus to Tacoma, which departed at 10:45 a.m.
The bus arrived at the Tacoma Streetcar Operations and Maintenance Facility, 800 E. 25th
Street, Tacoma, WA 98421 at 11:45 a.m. Cleve Cleveland of Sound Transit gave a tour of the
facility to the Council. At 12:15 p.m., the Council boarded the Tacoma Link Streetcar, arriving
at the Harmon Brewery and Restaurant, 1938 Pacific Ave., Tacoma, WA 98402. The Council
took a break for lunch at 12:30 p.m. At 1:45 p.m., the Council boarded the streetcar and returned
to the maintenance facility. The Council proceeded to walk to the Amtrak Station at 2:30 p.m.
and board the train at 3:20 p.m., departing for Union Station in Portland, Oregon.
Upon arriving at Portland's Union Station at 6:45 p.m., the Council walked through the
redeveloped Pearl District to the streetcar stop. The Council boarded the Portland Streetcar at
7:10 p.m., arriving at the Portland Marriott City Center Hotel, 520 SW Broadway St. Portland,
OR 97205 at 7:40 p.m. The Council met for dinner in the La Salle Meeting Room at 8:00 p.m.
After dinner, Vicki Diede of the Portland Department of Transportation and Charlie Hales of
HDR, Inc., gave PowerPoint presentations on the Portland Streetcar.
The Council met in the La Salle Meeting Room at 8:00 a.m. for breakfast on Saturday,
October 4. Rick Gustafson of Portland Streetcar Inc., Andy Cotugno of Portland Metro, and
Mark Edlen of Gerdling Edlen answered questions from the Council. Mayor Moncrief gave his
closing comments about the trip and thanked the presenters and sponsors. At 10:30 a.m., the
Council boarded the MAX light rail train to the Portland International Airport. The Council
boarded the plane at 11:50 a.m. bound for Dallas Fort Worth International Airport.
