HomeMy WebLinkAboutIR 9326INFORMAL REPORT TO CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS To the Mayor and Members of the City Council ex SUBJECT: 2010 Reduction in Force Update r[Ta No. 9326 November 16, 2010 Page 1 of 1 The purpose of this Informal Report is to update City Council on the status of the employees that received notification that their jobs were being eliminated as part of the FY 2011 budget. On September 21, 2010, the City Council approved the budget for FY 2011, which included the elimination of 91 filled positions. The following day, those affected employees received reduction in force (RIF) notifications that their positions would be eliminated effective November 5, 2010. On September 24, 2010, Human Resources met with affected employees, and advised them of their layoff rights, reviewed the preferential hiring process with them and encouraged them to apply for vacant positions within the city. Vacant positions have been posted to allow employees that received RIF notifications an opportunity to apply. The Chart below shows the status of the 91 employees affected by the RIF as of November 5, 2010: Offers from City Departments for vacant positions 48 Retirements and /or left the organization prior to 11/5/2010 5 Employees that have not received an offer after applying 16 Employees that have not applied for any positions within CFW 22 Total Employees Affected: 91 Of the 91 employees that received RIF notifications, 47 have retained positions with the city, 1 offer was declined. The chart also shows that 22 employees did not apply for any vacant positions. Those employees were contacted and reminded of internal positions yet declined to apply. As of November 5, 2010, 16 of the 91 employees affected by the RIF were actively applying to continue employment with the city. On November 5, 2010, 38 employees that did not secure employment by their RIF date were terminated. Human Resources will continue to work with those interested in returning to employment with the City.
