The City of Fort Worth maintains parks, medians, rights -of -ways, traffic intersections, the downtown interstate highway system, and tax foreclosed city properties. The number of mows per year and the mowing intervals within a year are dictated by the level of budgeted funds. Maintenance Service Levels The following provides information regarding mowing cycles by specific maintenance category Maintenance Service Level and Frequency Service Delivery Area Cycles/Year Medians Maintained (mow, edge & trim) every 21 days All on contract, 14 cycles /year Rights -of -Ways Maintained (mow, edge & trim) every 28 days All on contract 9 cycles /year Traffic Maintain intersection traffic sightlines (mow & All on contract intersections trim) every 30 days 8 cycles /year IH30/IH35 Maintained (mow & trim) four times a year All on contract 4 cycles /year Parks Continue to be maintained in accordance with Maintained on contract specific park service level category (7, 14, 21, and by city forces 28 & 42 day cycle; majority are 14 days) Number of cycles varies Tax foreclosed Maintained (mow, edge & trim) every 35 days All by city forces City properties 8 cycles /year Private owned lots Once due process has occurred, vacant All on contract in violation properties are maintained every 21 -28 days 9 - 14 cycles /year Major Changes in Service Levels In FY2009 the edging and trimming of neighborhood and community parks was reduced from 18 times per year to one time per year in an effort to meet targeted budget savings. The elimination of these services has been a source of concern for many citizens. In response the Parks and Community Services Department re- examined its mowing operations and assessed available resources and, as a result of changing mowing patterns in some areas and realigning a small percentage of its contract mowing funding, the Park Department will be able to ISSUED BY THE CITY MANAGER FORT WORTH, TEXAS INFORMAL REPORT TO CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS To the Mayor and Members of the City Council a SUBJECT: MOWING SERVICE LEVELS No. 9308 October 12, 2010 Page 2 of 2 reinstitute the edging and trimming of community and neighborhood parks on a minimum 14 to a maximum 28 day frequency dependent upon rainfall in line with the new fiscal year. In addition, the FY2011 adopted budget appropriated $573,099 which will enable the City to reinstitute the mowing, edging and trimming of rights -of -ways on a 28 day frequency.
