The old structure is located directly next to the newly constructed building and is sitting on what will eventually become the parking lot for the new facility. Demolition of the old structure began on September 21, 2010, with an anticipated date of completion in October 2010. Until the new parking lot can be constructed, the Police Department needs to provide parking spaces for the officers' personal vehicles without causing disruption or additional traffic congestion at William James Middle School. In particular, disruption of student drop off and pick up in the 1100 block of Nashville Avenue must be avoided. Between Nashville Avenue and Thrall Street in the 2800 block of Avenue D, city -owned barricades currently block traffic, along with cyclone fencing behind these barricades. Written permission was requested and granted from both FWISD Deputy Superintendant Dansby and Texas Wesleyan University Vice President Steve Roberts for the temporary removal of the cyclone fencing at either end of the 2800 block of Avenue D. The Police Department plans to utilize this temporary measure until completion of the parking lot in early February. The documentation of written permission from both schools was presented to the City of Fort Worth Registered Architect Alfonzo Meza. Mr. Meza surveyed the 2800 block of Avenue D and suggested that a partial barricade be constructed on both ends of Avenue D to restrict access to the street one way only in the eastbound direction. Also suggested was signage to be installed at either end of the block posting the one way only and police parking access. An additional ten (10) parking spaces will be available to the Police Department upon completion of this project. If you have any questions, please contact Captain Gene Jones at 817.392.4644. Dale A.
