Subject: PROPOSED COUNCIL - INITIATED ZONING CHANGES FOR THE 800
BLOCKS OF EAST JESSAMINE STREET AND ATLANTA STREET, AND 2416
EVANS AVENUE
The August 3 City Council agenda will contain an M &C to initiate the zoning process for the
800 blocks of E. Jessamine Street and Atlanta Street, and 2416 Evans Avenue. The
purpose of the proposed zoning change is to rezone residential and non - residential property
to a zoning classification that reflects the current institutional land use and its proposed
expansion (H.O.P.E. Farm boys' school) and appropriate land use policies. For your
reference, the attached PowerPoint presentation shows the future land use from the 2010
Comprehensive Plan, the current zoning, and the proposed zoning. Councilmember Hicks
would like to initiate rezoning of this area in response to the property owner's request.
Councilmember Hicks met with the affected property owner in June 2010. The property
owner requested rezoning at that time.
Public hearings for the rezoning of these properties would be held by the Zoning
Commission on September 8, 2010, and by the City Council on October 12, 2010.
