SUBJECT: RELOCATION OF THE HEDRICKIWITHERS WILL ROGLRS
MEMORIAL COMPLEX ARCHITECTURAL DRAWING
Our public art staff advises us that ongoing exposure to light may harm the original 1935
architectural drawing of the Will Rogers Memorial Complex (WRMC). In order to preserve this
valuable yet fragile artwork, we intend in early April to remove it from display outside of the
Council Chamber at City Hall,
The Fort Worth Art Commission recently appointed a professional panel, including certified art
conservators, stakeholders and advisors to develop a Stewardship Plan to provide the best
standards of care and exhibition for the drawing, Since artworks on paper require a controlled
environment, including specific lighting levels, they have recommended that the drawing be
removed immediately for a period of rest, Further recommendations include making photographic
reproductions of the drawing for display as well as partnering with an appropriate facility in near
proximity to WRMC that could:
* Provide climate controlled exhibition and storage areas
r * Meet optimum light and security requirements
* Utilize the historic artwork in exhibition and educational programming
We have asked the Fort Worth Art Commission to make a recommendation about the long term
stewardship of this historic drawing in the coming weeks.
If Council has any questions, please contact public art director Martha Peters at 817-298-3025.
Respectfully submitted,
Date A. Fisseler, P.E.
