SUBJECT: JULY 4 FIREWORKS PATROLS
The Fort Worth Fire Department initiated a series of fireworks patrols starting on Wednesday,
th
July 3rd and concluding on Sunday, July 6. The fireworks patrol was a collaborative
enforcement effort that included the Fire Department Arson & Bomb Unit, Emergency
Management Office, Fire Communications Office, Community Risk Reduction, and the Bureau of
Fire Prevention.
The primary objective of the fireworks detail was to ensure Fire Operations resources were
available to respond to higher priority fire, rescue, and emergency medical incidents. The
enforcement objective of the fireworks detail was to support Fort Worth Police Department patrol
elements in the confiscation of fireworks and the issuance of General Complaint Citations for
violations of City Ordinance Section 3301.1.3 which prohibits the sale, use, and possession of
fireworks within the city limits. Officer safety concerns limited the number of citations issued and
the number of fireworks confiscated.
Fireworks patrol units responded citywide to calls for service, however, many locations, including
Berry at Edgewood, and the Ash Crescent neighborhood were deemed unsafe for fireworks patrol
units by the Fort Worth Police Department. As a result, the detail was unable to effect
enforcement in these areas. Arson units assisted with multiple fire investigations, injuries,
gathering.

Citations & Fireworks Confiscation:
The Fireworks Detail issued one citation during the detail and confiscated 5 lbs. of
fireworks.
The department increased its efforts to educate the public about the dangers of fireworks
using social media, print, and television outlets. Wildfires, structure fires, and personal
injury are common results of illegal fireworks use, and the storage of fireworks increases
the risk to occupants of a building and firefighters during any structure fire.
