AN ORDINANCE ORDERING AN ELECTION OF THE QUALIFIED
VOTERS OF THE CITY OF FONT WORTH, TEXAS, ON TUESDAY,
THE 8TH DAY OF APRIL, A. D. 1947, FOR THE PURPOSE OF
ELECTING NINE COUNCIINEN FOR SAID CITY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE 'CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT NORTH, TEXAS:
SECTION I.
That, in compliance with the Charter of the City of Fort Worth and
in accordance with the laws and Constitution of the State of Texas, an
election be and the same is hereby called and ordered for the first Tues-
day after the first Monday in April, A. D. 1947, the same being the 8th
day of said month, at which election all qualified voters may vote for the
purpose of electing nine councilmen.
SECTION II.
That the City Secretary of said City shall prepare ballots to be
used in said election and shall stamp same "Official Ballot," on which
ballot shall be printed the names of the candidates for the position of
councilman. The places of the different councilmen shall be designated
on the official ballot as Member of Council, Place No. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 61
7, 8 and 9, respectively.
SECTION III.
That no personts name shall be placed upon the official ballot as
a candidate for the position of a member of the City Council unless the
name of such person has been presented to the City Secretary not less than
thirty (30) days prior to the date of said election by a petition signed
by three hundred (300) or more qualified voters of said City, in ink or
indelible pencil, together with the business or home address of each per-
son signing such petition, and it must also appear on the face of said pe-
tition the number of the place that the said candidate is seeking and that
the said petition has been separately circulated.
SECTION IV.
That it shall further appear to the said City Secretary, before
said candidate's name is entered on said ballot, that such candidate has
filed with the said City Secretary a written acceptance of his nomination
not less than twenty (20) days before the date of said election, and that
be has filed an affidavit of loyalty with the Secretary of State, as re-
quired by Article 2976a of the Revised Civil Statutes of Texas.
SECTION V.
That in the event that there are two or more candidates for the
same position and place as a member of the 'City Council, the position of
such candidate's names on the ballot shall be determined by placing them
on such ballot in the alphabetical order of their surname.
SECTION VI.
That each voter shall vote for his choice candidate for each place
as member of the City Council by striking from the ballot the names of all
the candidates for which he does not wish to vote, and shall vote for one
candidate only for each place.
SECTION VII.
That the polls shall be kept open from seven o'clock a. m., until
seven o'clock p. m., and that due return be made to the City Council show-
ing the number of votes cast for and the number of votes cast against each
candidate for each of the positions of city councilman respectively.
SECTION VIII.
That this ordinance, signed by the Mayor and attested by the City
Secretary, shall constitute the proclamation of the Mayor calling and or-
dering said election, and that such notice shall be published in a news-
paper of general circulation in the City of Fort Worth once a week for
four weeks prior thereto, and that the said City Secretary is hereby
directed to post or cause to be posted said proclamation at least thirty
(30) days before said election in each voting precinct.
SECTION IX.
That the polling places for this election and the personnel of the
officers who are to hold the same, except insofar as they may be changed
by the City Council of said City, shall be as follows:
