Honorable Mayor and
Members of the City Council Re: Request for de-annexation of
City of Fort Worth land adjacent to Blue Mound
Mrs. McKnight and Gentlemen:
The Planning and Zoning Department has investigated the request of the town
of Blue Mound, Texas for release of certain areas from First Reading
Ordinances of the City of Fort Worth.
Reference is made to a letter from the town of Blue Mound calling attention
to an undesirable situation in respect to traffic enforcement on the roads
surrounding Blue Mound, and the desirability of releasing right-of-way to
Blue Mound in order that it might be annexed by it and subject to their
police protection.
As indicated on the attached map of the area, the town of Blue Mound is
bounded on the north by County Road No. 4020, on the south by County Road
No. 4001 , and on the west by State Highway F.M. No. 156.
Blue Mound is also surrounded on the north, east and south by First Reading
Ordinances of the City of Fort Worth, specifically Ordinance No. 3952 on
the sout, and Ordinance No. 3835 on the north and east. The area west of
State F.M. Highway No. 156 is in Saginaw, which is an incorporated munici-
pality.
Annexation Ordinance No. 3935 reads along the east line of the town of Blue
Mound; and along a survey line along the north side of Blue Mound, which
survey line is located within County Road No. 4020. This results in the
southerly half of County Road No. 4020 being within Blue Mound and subject
of its police protection and the northerly half of County Road No. 4020
being within First Reading of the City of Fort Worth and therefore, not
subject to police protection by either Fort Worth or Blue Mound.
In view of the problem of traffic control with particular regard to the pro-
tection of elementary school children who use the road, the Planning Depart-
ment is of the opinion that the release of one-half of the County Road on
the north side of Blue Mound would not have an adverse effect on the orderly
planned development of the City of Fort Worth.

The portion of County Road No. 4001 , south of Blue Mound, is included in
a different ordinance and should be further investigated.
The Planning and Zoning Department therefore recommends that such portion
of County Road No. 4020, lying north of Blue Mound, which is embraced in
Ordinance No. 3935, be deleted from the first reading area, and that such
portion of County Road No. 4001 , lying south of Blue Mound, which is em-
braced within Ordinance No. 3952, remain in the first reading area for
further study. The Public Works Department concurs in this recommendation.
