Our two boxing gyms(North and East)also offer a weekly mentoring program that promotes community involvement and engagement.Furthermore the FWPAL has created an Outdoor Excursion program that promotes youth awareness regarding nature, camping(dormitories)that includes Witco building, team sports and positive interaction with documented Mentors.Besides the youth, volunteers and mentors are the backbone of our program.Without the volunteers, civilian and sworn, our program would not have started and become the success that it is today. We recruit volunteers that have a passion for working with kids and seeing them push through obstacles to be able to accomplish their goals. In addition, all volunteers in the program and run through an extensive background check through BIDTA:(High Intensity Drug CFW and FORT WORTH POLICE ATHLETIC LEAGUE FY20 Page 15 of 35 Trafficking Area)before they are able to interact with the.youth in our program. As it whole, the outcome we anticipate is to grow our programs so we can eventually offer more sports and programs to include more youth city wide and to involve the community as a whole with enlisting more volunteers, mentors and police officer to help mentor and guide our youth so they understand that nothing is impossible for them. The goal of our programs is to give them the beliefs and tolls they need to obtain goals that they set for themselves. With growing our pro67am to involve youth city wide it then continues to lower the risk of the kids that get involved in the CCPD problem areas throughout out entire city and all of the communities, and not just the inner city. 2) Describe your organization's target population and who the program will benefit. How many people? What age group? The FWPAL program goals are to develop and promote, recruiting inner city kids to prevent crime, promote education and literacy, and overall youth development as liaisons for the FWPAL. In addition Coaches in the programs are responsible for checking report cards and viewing youth attendance records to ensure truancy is not allowed. So far our program has reached almost 700 youth in our community with ages that range from 5-17 years old. 3) Describe the geographic area your organization and project will serve(i.e.city wide,a specific council district, specific zip code, etc.) The FWPAL goal is to reach youth city wide eventually.Currently the majority of the youth are located in our North, Past and South aides of Fort Worth. This year we held a winter basketball season and played games at two schools. Between the two schools, which were Morningside Middle and Diamond Hills Jarvis High School,we hosted 14 games every Saturday for 6 weeks. PROBLEM AND CAUSES 4) Programs should address at least one of the following CCPD problem areas:a)violent crime,b)gang-related activities, c)safety of residents and/or youth,d)crime throu iou.Fort Worth neighborhoods,or e)juvenile crime. Please identify which problem your program's outcomes address and describe in detail the causes of that Uroblem. Please cite sources of information. The FWPAL program was created because we were able to recognize the struggles that kids these days have to deal with.We noticed that kids in the high crime areas lacked the opportunity for osilive aflerschool activities. These kids also lacked guidance and mentorship in thew everyday lives and had low ser teem.Kids in these arras were dealing CFW and FORT WORTH POLICE ATHLETIC LEAGUE FY20 Page 16 of 35 with peer pressure to participate in criminal gang activity which would then turn into violent crime as well as juvenile crime. We noticed that the peak time for crime in those areas was between 4pm and 8pm. At that point we knew that something needed to be put in place to help these kids not fall victim to these peer pressures and give them positive afterschool activities, guidance and menlorship to help with their self esteem and be able to set goals and achieve them. Another Trend we were seeing in these areas were more and more negative interactions with the police officers and the youth. So by having police officers come in and volunteer their time to help with these programs and interact with the youth that the negative interactions would lesson greatly and improve the relationship in these communities. PROGRAM AcrivinES AND OUTCOMES 5) Describe your program activities, how they address the causes you described in question#4 and how these activities are measured. These measures should also be included as an exhibit in the contract and you will be required to report progress towards your goals. 'Chese will also be reported to the CCPD Board. Currently the FWPAL has the following youth sports programs to include boxing(ages 8.17 for boys and girls),flag football(ages 5-13 for boys and girls),flax football(ages 9-15),Cade Blue after Dark Basketball program(ages 8-17 for boys and girls),winter basketball(ages 5-13),el►ec ricading(ages 5-17)and outdoor excursions for ages 8-17 for boys and girls.Since all of the FWPAL programs meet during the peak crime time;on a daily or weekly basis, between 4pm-8pm,that keeps the kids involved in it sport or allerschool program that they enjoy and gives them less time to get involved in the above CCPD problem areas. We have seen kids in the program really grow and greatly improve their self-esteem and their grades, which then allows them to not fall victim to the peer pressures that they face on a daily basis. 6) Describe the anticipated outcomes of your program and how it affects theproblem(g)you selected from the list in Question#5. Please include brief descriptions of your evaluation methods. Specific outcome goals will be outlined in the Effectiveness Measures Form along with data collection tools. The amazing thing about the FWPAL program is that we really address all of the CCPD problem areas.'llic way we do that is by providing the youth sports and programs to participate in with coaches, volunteers and mentor that hold them accountable by keeping the kids engrained in something they really enjoy while interacting with Fort Worth Police Officers. Our spoils and mentor programs meet daily or weekly and holds the youth in our community accountable, therefore leaves them less time to get involved in gang-related activities, committing violent crimes, continues to keep them safe and definitely reduces juvenile crime in our city.We want the youth in our programs to feel safe in their CFW and FORT WORTH POLICE ATHLETIC LEAGUE FY20 Page 17 of 35 communities and to set goals so they have something to strive for and not fall into the pressures that can sometimes come along with being a kid,Our activities are measured by the kids in the program completing pre and post surveys that track if the child is feeling safer in their community after being a part of our program. Our youth also compete in tournaments and competitions and we have seen great success at these events. 7) Describe what makes your program unique from other crime prevention programs in your area. Include descriptions of how it compares with similar programming offered in the area. What makes the FWPAL program unique is the fact that the youth in our program get to interact and get coached or mentored by Dort Worth Police Officers in all of our programs and sports on a daily or weekly basis. With doing this we can continue to strive to create and build better relationships between the youth in the community and the Police Officers in our department.By interacting and getting to know the police officers in our city we hope to lessen the negative interactions that some of these kids have had,It is very important to our program that we keep police officers and members of the community involved. The more positive interactions with officers these kids have the better chance there is for these kids to stay out of trouble and foetus on achieving the goats they have set for themselves. Our program is special because not only are we building relationships with tho kids in our program,we are building and strengthening our relationship in the community as well. 8) Describe:a)how long your program has been in operation,b)its sources of financial sustainability, and c) why CCPD funds are necessary at this time. The FWPAL program has been in operation since 2016.Our program has received several donations from local businesses as well as a grant from the NPAL(National Police Athletic League).Safety of the youth in our programs is of the highest priority. Funding from CCPD is necessary at this time to continue to keep our program running and ensure that our youth can receive the correct equipment and obtain facilities to ensure the highest level of safety. In our program we,rely heavily on the volunteers that come mentor and spend time with these kids,Our program is run solely on bnth civilian and sworn volunteers, which allows us to focus on using any donation to go to safety equipment and facilities for the youth in our programs. We recruit mentors and volunteers that care about the youth in our community and want to see them overcome obstacles and achieve the goals that they have set for themselves_ 9) Describe and list what other funds, have been secured or applied for on 5ehalf of this program. Ilie FWPAL has received a grant from the NPAL(National Police Athletic League)for implementing the Cal CFW and FORT WORTH POLICE ATHLETIC LEAGUE FY20 Page I8 of 35 Ripken Sr.Badges for Baseball propun which includes weekly meetings, taking tours within Government.Facilities and promoting literacy and education. We were also able to receive a donation from the First Annual Cliief Joel Fitzgerald fundraiser.
